TWO GLAZE FIRING.

If you have two glazes at two different temperatures/firing ranges use the lowest for example 1.1110 and 2.1160 use number one.

One of my tests has two glazes on it with firing ranges which are extremely far apart.

1.1040 and 2.1260 – I have fired it at 1150 as a test.

HIGHFIRE.

I have recently bought a glaze stain (orange tango) and the instructions are – HIGH FIRE. 

I have fired it at 1260 and it has fired to a really bright orange exactly what i wanted but its bubbly?.

Currently working out another temperature for the stain.

Glaze runs.

I have always been interested in how to get a glaze to run here are two ways i have found.

1.Use a stoneware glaze really thick at the top, it can withstand the temperature but cant withstand the weight of the glaze.

2. Earthenware glaze will run fire higher than 1040/1060 but will be really thin at the top.

This is a glaze i have mixed by adding a stain to a normal clear earthenware glaze-
80 lead bisicalate
20 cornish stone
10 tango stain
im not to sure on why it has bubbled but the instructions just said HIGH FIRE
i have put them through on 1260degs and might put them through a little lower next time.

Casting a ‘soap on a rope’ duck.

This is purely made for slipcasting processes, i have used clay as a base, potters plaster for the cast, wood for the sides, c;ay to fill the gaps, rope to hold it together and soap to stop the two moulds from bonding.

i will upload the pictures of the finished duck before firing when the mould is dry!
